Considering a Liquid Fast? Check out this info below…
BEFORE YOU START YOUR LIQUID FAST
Fasting is not only about detoxing & giving your system a rest….it’s also about the journey!
So…what’s next?
Ok, you will need 3-5 days of a pre-fasting diet. This will prepare your body to fight against negative detox symptoms that include lack of energy, headaches, aches, irritation, anxiety, and diarrhea, among others. Simply put, plan ahead and reap all the benefits.
3 days if you are generally pretty healthy.
5 days if you consume lots of junkfood, sugar and alcohol.
Pre-Liquid Fast Hit List
To bring your body down to a more alkaline state before your fast, cut out or significantly reduce the following acidic foods:
Alcohol
Dairy
Refined sugar
Including: corn syrup, white, and powdered sugars
Animal Products
Including: bacon, red meats, sausages, drumsticks etc.
Caffeine
Keep coffee intake to a minimum and eliminate all sodas
Processed foods
Any boxed, canned, and bagged foods containing artificial flavoring, preservatives, and additives are considered processed. Stock up on those veggies & wholefoods!
ALSO
Avoid Eating after 7pm
To allow your digestion to begin to restore and repair, and to maximize daily energy!
So clear your calendar accordingly. You may not want to be doing lots of work of social engagements at this time that may possibly tempt you away from your fasting. Just think of these days as a gift to yourself to nourish, heal & re-set.
Delivery Co-ordination – Our Alive Team will co-ordinate with you to deliver the day before your chosen start date (and a 2nd delivery before your 3rd day if you have chosen the 6x Day Deluxe Fast). We need a minimum of 24hrs before your start date to ensure we have the staff and produce we need. Please make sure you give your correct contact details and that you are home to receive the delivery.
DURING YOUR LIQUID FAST
Woohoo! Now that your Alive Fast Kit has arrived, it’s time to put your body and mind to the test.
How to do a fast? Below, we answer a few questions you may have during your fasting…
How do I keep my Juices fresh?
Your juices will be sent to you freshly made. Remember our Alive juices are unpasteurized, which means the enzymes and good bacteria are still living. You need to commit and start within 24hrs to get the best out of the nutrients and enzymes. Our juices last up to 5 days.
When do I defrost my broths/soups?
Defrost your broths/ soups (one day’s worth) at a time the day before at room temperature. Generally, it takes about 3-4 hours for them to defrost in this climate. When they’re mostly thawed place them in the fridge so you can start in the next day. They can be drunk cold or hot – up to you.
*Note: keep frozen if you’re NOT starting your fast right away! They can stay frozen up to 6 months.
When should I eat and drink?
Start your day with a lukewarm glass of lemon water (or our Cleanse Infused Water). Drink your 1st juice as your breakfast and end the day with a soup or broth. All others in between. See attached our fasting schedule doc to take away the guess work!
Drink each portion in 2-3 hour intervals or when you start feeling hungry—the timing is not set in stone. You can have as much water as you like throughout the day.
I am not feeling so amazing, why?
Ah, the good ol’ detox symptoms! These can include a decrease in energy, mood swings, and aches, among other things. Your body is working very hard to release the toxins built up inside. Not to mention, you’re drinking a lot of fruits and veggies 6 times a day (something your body may not be used to). Don’t panic, everyone reacts differently, and remember these symptoms mean toxins are leaving your body.
Getting enough sleep can help. If you suffer from insomnia or just have trouble getting to sleep, yoga and meditation can also help. Don’t forget to drink up! Drinking up to 8 cups of mineral water a day (none of that “Aqua” please!) it helps flush out the toxins faster and will get you back on track to feeling amazing.
Listen to your body! If your body is not responding well to the liquid fasting, add some small amounts of food to balance out the juices. Be attuned to your body, only do what you can handle.
Can I eat anything during my fast?
Although food is not advised during the fast, an exception is made if you are seriously about to gnaw your arm off the bone! Grab a handful of natural nuts and seeds OR 1 serving of vegetables a day (any kind you like) with a touch of sea salt to balance out your sodium intake.
What about coffee?
Worried about caffeine withdrawals during your cleanse? It’s hard to break a coffee kick, we get it! So, coffee lovers can rest easy: drinking small amounts of black coffee is okay if you absolutely must, or try our Chilled Yerba Maté – its herbal, caffeinated and high in antioxidants!! But really keep it small. And of course, lots of water!
I am not hungry, but I just need to chew something, anything!
Stop for a moment and check in with yourself. Are you actually hungry or just craving the chewing sensation? If you’re craving the chewing sensation, try to distract yourself – drink water, finish off that book, take a long walk through the rice paddies – and surely enough, you’ll forget.
If your body is begging for food, check out the snacks mentioned above.
Can I exercise during the fast?
We do not recommend vigorous exercise during fasting because your body is already doing a lot right now. Try gentle exercise such as stretching and yoga to relax your body and mind, but keep it minimal. No crossfit 😉
AFTER YOUR LIQUID FAST
Congratulations – you did it! Time flies when you’re having fun 😉
After you’ve rebuilt, reclaimed and re-activated your health, the final stage of the journey is the transition back to your normal life and diet.
Take It Slow
As much as you may want to dig into a Betelnut Burger and red wine the first day back, remember to not overload your organs and body during this transition. Take it slow, you may not need as much food to feel full. Respect your body and the hard-cleansing work it has done for you. Foods you should avoid include: alcohol, dairy, red meat, fried and/or processed foods.
Transition Into a Healthy Lifestyle
Liked how you felt at the end? Why not keep a green juice or a cup of broth a day in your regime? Incorporate what you have learnt into your life.
Monitor Yourself
If you think you may be suffering from food allergies or sensitivities, this is the perfect opportunity for you to keep track and target what may be hurting you. This includes sensitivities to wheat, dairy, nuts, soy, etc. To figure out whether any of these are triggers, systematically add them back into your diet one at a time. By doing so, you can accurately pinpoint the allergen. For example, if you reintroduce dairy into your diet and feel symptoms such as fatigue, cramping, headaches, or diarrhoea, you may be sensitive to dairy products.
Repeat
After your fast, we recommend repeating the fast every couple of months to get in deeper to those toxic layers.
